The Blackout Club is a Co-op Horror Game Reminiscent of Stranger Things

“Stranger Things” is basically the biggest thing in the world right now, so you probably won’t be too surprised to learn that the upcoming game The Blackout Club is strongly reminiscent of Netflix’s hit show. If the brief teaser isn’t enough to convince you of the “Stranger Things” similarities, the premise probably will. It’s set in a small rural town, with a bunch of teens teaming up to investigate a serious of mysterious blackouts and the disappearance of their friend after the adults refuse to acknowledge that anything strange is going on.

Each of the playable teenage characters will have their own unique play style, and you’ll also have access to a ton of upgradable weapons and equipment. The co-op horror game will also allow you to level up in order to gain new skills and abilities.

The Blackout Club is being developed by Question, an independent Californian-based studio consisting of industry veterans who worked on AA titles including BioShock, Dishonored, Prey, and Thief: Deadly Shadows. Keep an eye out for the game when it releases on PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year.

In the game’s press release, Question’s co-founder Jordan Thomas said the following about how he feels The Blackout Club will appeal to horror fans:

“In The Blackout Club, the horror genre comes home. Our story is about vulnerable heroes — for whom co-op gameplay is a matter of survival — who unite to save their friends. We love expressive systems, where you shape the game experience as you see fit, often versus a whole ecosystem of intelligent threats. And now, they’re right next door – in a familiar, modern town, where the monster wears a human face. We can’t wait for you to meet it.”

The Blackout Club Official Synopsis
Set in a small town with a monstrous secret, The Blackout Club follows a group of teens who band together after learning they’ve all been temporarily losing consciousness – waking up in strange places with no memory of what they have done. Recently, one of their closest friends vanished entirely. When none of their parents, teachers, or even the police are willing to believe them, the friends launch an investigation. Together they will discover a maze of tunnels – a hostile underworld filled with hypnotic music and populated by a clandestine group of adults – all beneath their seemingly idyllic suburbs.
