It seems like it’s been a while since Djimon Hounsou has been in anything major, but he’s an actor whose presence is always welcome. Which is why it’s good news that director Alex Proyas has cast the actor in his forthcoming take on John Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost.

Hounsou has signed on to play Abdiel, the angel of death, in what promises to be an FX-laden tale that will see future college students flunking their literary exams left and right. Bradley Cooper will play Lucifer while Ben Walker is Michael.

Stuart Hazeldine developed the primary draft of the screenplay, originally written by Byron Willinger and Philip de Blasi. Lawrence Kasdan provided a polish as well as Ryan Condal, who delivered the most recent draft.

Synopsis
Lucifer and Michael, God’s greatest archangels, share the bond of extraordinary friendship until God produces his greatest creation: Man. Unable to remain subservient to God if it means bowing down to humanity, Lucifer begins his dark descent and is cast out – only to plot his revenge.
