According to Variety Syfy has greenlit six hour-long episodes of “Monster Man,” a reality series announced as part of its development slate earlier this year. The show follows genre film prop builder Cleve Hall and his family, who help Hall run the company. The series will start shooting in Los Angeles this month with a tentative start date of January, 2012.
Syfy programming topper Mark Stern called the series “our own ‘American Chopper’” when the net unveiled its development slate ahead of its March upfront. “This whole world of special effects makeup and creature-making is something that we’ve been exploring for quite a while,” he said.
The show is produced by Gurney Prods., which also makes Syfy’s “Haunted Collector” and Discovery’s “Shark Week” specials, among others, and will fit into Syfy’s unscripted slate alongside monster makeup competition show “Face Off” — a hit for the net last year.
Hall has been in the prop design biz since his teenage years and now has teenagers of his own (daughters Constance and Elora, who will be on the show).
More soon.
