We haven’t heard all that much about Shane Black’s The Predator in the past couple of weeks aside from Keegan-Michael Key saying that, “…if people think they’re going to see a remake of the original movie, they’re in for a surprise.” Rather, he stated that Black’s entry, “…certainly lives in the universe of the five films that were made.

Today, Yahoo! posted an interview with co-star Olivia Munn confirming that this is the mentality that people will need when seeing the film. She tells them that, “…production has wrapped on the forthcoming tentpole, and that its story will be a stand-alone affair — albeit one that exists in the same universe as Schwarzenegger’s original.” Furthermore, she makes it clear that the film won’t acknowledge the other entries. You can see the interview below.

The Predator stars Thomas Jane, Edward James Olmos, Sterling K. Brown, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Olivia Munn, Alfie Allen, Yvonne Strahovski, Augusto Aguilera, and Keegan-Michael Key.

Black is directing from a script by Fred Dekker. John Davis, Joel Silver, and Lawrence Gordon — who produced the original — are producing. The Predator comes out August 3, 2018.
