China Delivers Skin

China just doesn’t make horror movies, anyone who follows the Asian market knows that, which is why when something does come out of the country and manages to scare people, like the recent Tribeca flick The Matrimony, it’s kind of a big deal.

Enter Painted Skin, a rare Chinese supernatural action film set to be helmed by Wilson Yip (Dragon Tiger Gate) and with Donnie Yen (pictured) on board to star, according to Variety. The film is based on a series of classic Chinese stories called “Strange Tales of Liaozhai”, which deal with the love/hate relationship between a vixen spirit and a group of humans. Well, that’s a bit vague, isn’t it?

So perhaps Skin will feature some scary moments and if it’s half as good as The Matrimony apparently is, we’re in for a treat. Painted Skin is a collaboration between Bejing and Singapore, and production aims to start up as soon as a female lead, the vixen one would assume, is cast.
