Granted, Douglas Buck’s retelling of Sisters is one I’m actually looking forward to, but this morning Variety announced that MGM is working on their own line of direct-to-DVD horrors and 1980’s Dressed to Kill is first on the block. At least the other companies going the theater-free route are doing sequels, not full-on remakes.
Newcomer Rick Alexander is penning the redux, though nothing was mentioned about what might be different, if anything. The original had Michael Caine and Angie Dickinson, among others, in a story about a transsexual who murders one of his psychiatrist’s patients, a crime witnessed by a prostitute that is now in his sights.
The biggest issue is that there’s really nothing about Dressed to Kill that needs to be updated; indeed, DePalma was in top form when he directed the film and I get a feeling that any attempt to recreate it might be too… vanilla. Time will tell!
