Having created one of the single most profitable horror franchises ever in Paranormal Activity, filmmaker Oren Peli is finally ready to try his hand at straight narrative horror with his new film, Eliza Graves.

According to Variety Peli has signed on to direct the film for Sobini Films and Icon Prods.

Loosely based on a short story by Edgar Allan Poe (come on Variety is it so hard to spell the man’s name right?), the project centers on a Harvard Medical School graduate who takes a job at an insane asylum, unaware of the fact that it has been taken over by its occupants. Joe Gangemi penned the screenplay.

Look for more on this one and Peli’s other upcoming feature Area 51 as soon as we get it.
