Let’s get to the bad news first, shall we? Those of you who are expecting a return to the bloody, R-rated good time offered by the original will be saddened to read director Nelson McCormick’s admission that this slasher spinoff will be rated PG-13 when it hits theaters February 1, 2008. “There were times when we thought, ‘That shot is more R than PG-13,’ so we would go with less blood. But the goal of our killer is not to rack up a body count. His goal is to seize on an opportunity and do whatever he needs to do in his demented state of mind.” Sigh.
As for the villain himself, played by Johnathon Schaech (pictured, who recently penned “The Washingtonians” episode of Masters of Horror), “He becomes a little like a machine,” says McCormick. “He kills whenever he feels it is necessary. This guy doesn’t have a bloodlust—he just wants Donna.”
No bloodlust, huh? Oh, well. Chalk this one up as looking like yet another missed opportunity, not unlike the upcoming Live Free or Die Hard that all the action junkies were hoping would be a return to form for that series but is instead also conforming to the PG-13 madness sweeping Hollywood. Seems the suits just never learn, do they?
