The story involves the famous monsters (specifically the Frankenstein monster and his (ex) bride, Eunice, Larry the Werewolf, the Mummy, Al the Goblin, The Invisible Man, and of course Count Dracula), who have all holed themselves up in the titular building because the world is too scary, even for them.
When faithful Renfield passes away, Dracula sends Al out into the world to find the last of the Renfield clan in order to keep the monsters supplied with blood and food so they never have to venture outside. Things apparently either get wacky or scary, we’re not sure which. “We really want to make Hotel Transylvania scary,” co-director Anthony Stacchi told the site, so I guess that’s a good sign!
The character designs were unveiled at a Sony Pictures Animation press preview this week, so expect to see them cropping up online any day now. Sony plans to release Hotel Transylvania on the big screen in 2009.
