New Details Reveal More About Main Ghostbusters Villain

We’ve seen many images from the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, along with a handful of trailers, but we haven’t yet come face-to-face with the film’s main villain. His name is Rowan, he’s based on the franchise’s iconic “logo ghost,” and we only know he exists because we’ve seen a few toys. Let’s learn more, shall we?

Per Bloody Disgusting, Funko’s press release for their upcoming line of POP! vinyl toys based on the new characters spills the beans on Rowan’s origin story, revealing that he apparently starts off as a human being. The character, played by Neil Casey (“Saturday Night Live”), is referred to as “Rowan’s Ghost.”

The site writes that Rowan is allegedly a convicted murderer who turns into a ghost after his execution is hit by a supercharged electrical storm. This gives him the power to raise an army of other ghosts, which could be made up of famous villains throughout history. How cool is that?!

We love you already, Rowan’s Ghost.

Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones are our new paranormal investigators along with their loyal secretary Chris Hemsworth. Neil Casey, Andy Garcia, Michael K. Williams, Matt Walsh, Pat Kiernan, Cecily Strong, and Charles Dance also star. Cameos will include the original film’s stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts. Plus Ozzy Osbourne.

The Ghostbusters reboot will haunt the big screen on July 15, 2016.
