Halloween Edibles – Learn How to Make Zombie Cupcakes and a Red Velvet Brain Cake

We currently find ourselves balls deep – pardon my French – in the Halloween season, and like all holidays, our favorite one has been known to result in serious weight gains. Edible oddities are all the rage this time of the year, from Halloween Whoppers to pumpkin-flavored EVERYTHING, and today we bring two gruesome new treats for you to try this weekend.

First up, a talented user over on Instructables has put together a detailed step-by-step guide showing you how to make particularly nasty zombie cupcakes, which take a bite out of you as you take a bite out of them. Ingredients include fondant, food coloring, and the usual cupcake basics; and the results, if you take time and pay close attention, are truly horrifying.

Continuing the zombie theme, confectionery artisan Yolanda Gampp has whipped up a super realistic looking brain cake for Bored Panda, which uses a red velvet cake as the base and fondant to create the look of brain tissue. Raspberry jam tops the whole thing off and really ties the proverbial room together, giving the cake that wet, fresh-out-of-the skull look.
