For those of you unaware, the former “Mystery Science Theater 3000” gang have since returned to riffing on bad movies but have done so splitting off into two groups: Show creator Joel Hodgson’s “Cinematic Titanic” has been sporadically churning out DVDs of public domain movies and doing live performances around the country over the past year, and Michael J. Nelson spearheaded Rifftrax, specializing in providing snarky DVD commentary tracks for bigger movies ranging from Lord of the Rings to Battlefield Earth. Rifftrax has been around longer and gained much more fame to the point that a live event is being staged to be broadcast via close-circuit to theaters around the country. Here’s the official press release:
Fathom Events presents RiffTrax LIVE: Plan 9 from Outer Space, an evening of LIVE riffing on the Worst Movie Ever Made, beaming into movie theaters nationwide on Thursday, August 20th, at 8PM ET/7PM CT/6PM MT/Tape Delayed at 8PM PT.
