Without Wes Craven, the horror genre would not be what it is today. Here was an artist who tackled real life issues with a sense of humanity and raw honesty who redefined horror – not just with one film, but time and time again.

Like a lot of fans, we fell in love with horror more because of Wes Craven. We understood the power of the medium to open dialogues about real world issues. We got to be that person that jumped and screamed at the films because that’s how powerful his work was and will still be seen many years from now.

Sleep in peace, Wes. Please work it out with Freddy to visit us in our dreams.

With the tragic passing of Wes Craven, literally everyone in the industry has been reeling and expressing love for the man and his work. Several people have been writing in to Dread Central to ask if it would be cool to post their thoughts. So this Farewell to Wes feature will be their opportunity to share their feelings and their thoughts with you, the horror community.

Some will be long, some will be short, but all are important and will be featured with love and caring. It’s our honor to be able to do this for the man who gave us so very much.
