Well, well. All I can say is, “It’s about damn time!” It looks like the John Hillcoat-helmed The Road based on Cormac McCarthy’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel of the same name finally has a firm release date.

According to The Weinstein Company’s Dimension Films, we can look for Viggo Mortensen and crew to hit the big screen this coming October 16th, 2009. The company also promises a trailer is coming soon.

The Road is the epic post-apocalyptic tale of a journey taken by a father (Mortensen) and his young son (newcomer Kodi Smit-McPhee) across a barren landscape that was blasted by an unnamed cataclysm that destroyed civilization and most life on earth. It co-stars Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce, Robert Duvall, and Garret Dillahunt.
