#SDCC15: The Walking Dead Season 6 Premiere to Have More Zombies than EVER!

We just got out of the press roundtables for “The Walking Dead” Season 6, and it’ll be a short while before we can type up everything, but we wanted to give you a couple of highlights to whet your appetites for more.

First off, both exec producer Gale Anne Hurd and exec produce/director/special effects make-up supervisor Greg Nicotero promised that the season premiere will feature “more zombies than any other episode” so far.  Whereas, previously we had 150-200 at the most, Episode 6.01 will see over 300! Nicotero’s statement that they are “taking the threat of the Walkers and putting it forward” seems to be an understatement.

As for what those Walkers might look like, Nicotero (who, per usual, directed the premiere) teased that “decrepit” has been showing up a lot in descriptions of them.  They’ve refined the teeth even more and are adding a small bit of “digital augmentation”… moving a nose here, inserting a cavity there.  He said they did some sculpts of full muscled arms with sagging, dripping flesh so expect more decay ahead.

The last tidbit we’ll leave you with is that both Merritt Wever and Ethan Embry are confirmed guest stars in Season 6, but their roles are being kept under wraps for now.  Wever’s playing a character based on the comics, as is Embry, although he is only “loosely” based on someone that fans should recognize.  And speaking of the comics, exec producer David Alpert promised that if you’re a regular reader, you’ll see several things “stitched together” that “fill in the space between the panels” that comprise the story in Robert Kirkman’s source material.

That’s it for now… check back soon for our full write-up.

The sixth season of “The Walking Dead” premieres on October 11th and will pick up directly after the events of Season 5.
