World War Z Sequel Dated for Summer 2017

Plagued by well-documented production issues and heavily criticized by many horror fans, 2013’s World War Z was a pretty damn entertaining film, all things considered. It felt like five seasons of “The Walking Dead” crammed into two hours, and I kind of had a blast with it. Sue me.

We’ve learned today that Paramount has already dated the recently announced sequel, unleashing it into theaters a full two years from now. Though we don’t yet have an official title for the film, which I suppose we can call World War Z 2, we can expect it on June 9, 2017.

Steven Knight is penning the screenplay, and Juan Antonio Bayona is attached to direct. Production is set to begin this coming October, and Brad Pitt is expected to return.

In World War Z, United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt) traverses the world in a race against time to stop the zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to destroy humanity itself.
