Between his 2021 film We Need To Do Something and his most recent film The Mill, which just debuted on Hulu as part of Huluween, director Sean King O’Grady has shown his penchant for single-location horror. While often a choice due to budget constraints, O’Grady has adapted his two horror films to such limitations with grace and skill.

The Mill, which stars Lil Rel Howery, is a scathing indictment of capitalism and turning workers into literal cogs in the machine. Written by Jeffrey David Thomas, “a businessman (Lil Rel Howery) wakes up beside an ancient grist mill situated in the center of an open-air prison cell with no idea how he got there. Forced to work as a beast of burden to stay alive, he must find a way to escape before the birth of his child.

Dread Central spoke with O’Grady about single-location horror, just how dedicated Howery was to the role, and more.
