Tell the Trailer for THE MERMAID: LAKE OF THE DEAD You Love It or Else

Mermaids appear to be fashionable of late, especially mermaids of the less than friendly variety. But, truth be told, the mermaid of
The Mermaid: Lake of the Dead
isn’t really a mermaid at all. She’s more of a wraith; the wrathful spirit of a drowned woman seeking a man willing to love her back and god help him if he rejects her advances.

An evil mermaid falls in love with Marina’s fiancé Roman and aims to keep him away from Marina in her kingdom of death under water.
The Mermaid is a young woman who drowned a few centuries ago. Marina only has one week to overcome her fear of the dark water, to remain human in the deathly fight with the monsters and not to become one herself.

Viktoria Agalakova, Igor Khripunov, Efim Petrunin, and Nikita Elenev star in this aquatic ghost story from writer-director Svyatoslav Podgaevskiy (Queen of Spades and The Bride).

If you haven’t figured it out from those names alone this is a Russian production being dubbed into English for release in the US later this summer. July 19th appears to be the Russian release date. Not sure about the rest of us. If not the same day, expect a North American release date in the weeks and months to follow.

An English dubbed trailer for the Westernized titled The Mermaid: Lake of the Dead recently popped up online. The spin on the folklore presented in it feels like an intriguing hybridization of the mythological siren, a lovelorn ghost story, and a hint of the Japanese urban legend of the Slit-Mouthed Woman.

And to paraphrase Ghostbusters, if a mermaid asks you if you love her YOU SAY YES!
