Exclusive Cover Reveal – Joe and Kasey Lansdale’s Terror Is Our Business: Dana Roberts’ Casebook of Horrors

When you ask horror fans to list their favorite authors, Joe R. Lansdale’s name is bound to come up. He has released 40+ titles, received 30 literary awards, and been praised by The New York Times Book Review. And it seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree…

Lansdale’s daughter, Kasey (first published at the tender age of eight), has teamed up with her dad to release their first-ever short story collaboration, Terror Is Our Business: Dana Roberts’ Casebook of Horrors, this coming May; and we’re pleased to exclusively present the book’s cover art.

The collection showcases a dynamic duo of supernatural sleuthing: Dana Roberts and her sidekick, Jana. Terror Is Our Business gathers together all of Dana’s and Jana’s previous cases in a single volume and features an all-new adventure, “The Case of the Ragman’s Anguish,” written exclusively for this collection. It’s a return to old-school feelings of classic mystery horror novels and supernatural tales that draws in the reader with its pacing and style and delights with an abundance of crippling fear.

Author of several short stories and novellas and editor of assorted anthology collections, Kasey is best known as a singer/songwriter. “Writing Terror Is Our Business together allowed my dad and I to blend our own personalities and styles. I tend to be more traditional, while he’s a bit more unconventional. And being a co-author allowed me to incorporate my unique authority from the female perspective, giving the series a refreshing edge,” says Kasey. “Most of the stories I grew up reading in this traditional style were male-centric. I love that Dana and Jana are powerhouse supernatural investigators; yet, gender plays zero factor in the meat of these stories.”

Joe (whose “Hap and Leonard” novels were adapted into the hit SundanceTV series that’s currently in its third season) adds, “As a writer, I am known primarily in the horror world for things that don’t quite fit into the normal approach to horror. But in the last few years, I’ve had the bug to write more ‘traditional’ tales. Thus, Terror Is Our Business was the perfect set of stories for Kasey and me to work on together. And coupled with her music career, being an opening act for everyone from Ray Price to most recently Wynonna Judd, it became clear that both of us have a sort of musical rhythm in our writing. The collaboration allowed us to connect on that commonality.”

Cutting Block Books releases Terror Is Our Business: Dana Roberts’ Casebook of Horrors on May 29, 2018.

Synopsis:
Sherlock Holmes: arguably the most recognized detective in modern history. As the brains of any investigation, it’s no wonder that the heart of his partner, John Watson, is what rounds out this duo to create a textbook definition of success. This complementary dynamic is at the epicenter of the first-ever collaborative short story collection from Joe R. Lansdale and daughter Kasey Lansdale.

Terror Is Our Business: Dana Roberts’ Casebook of Horrors introduces readers to the world of Dana Roberts and her frightening career as an investigator of what she calls the “supernormal.” While she doesn’t believe in the supernatural, she does believe in unknown worlds. And teaming up with her Watson-like partner Jana makes solving what can only be described as very unusual mysteries from beyond the veil that much more riveting.
