Exclusive: Serial Box Unveils SILVERWOOD: THE DOOR Cover

At Dread Central, we’re all about paying attention to what we believe to be the future of various mediums. For example, I strongly believe that VR films will be taking off in a big way thanks to creators like Angel Manuel Soto and Alexandre Aja, who are pushing the platform in unique and exciting ways. Or another example could simply be Netflix and their streaming model, which certainly had its bumps in the road in its infancy. But through perseverance, stories like these ended not in failure but rather success, shifting the way people consume entertainment and altering how companies bring their wares to the masses.

Enter Serial Box.

Using ebooks as their platform, Serial Box approaches written (and spoken) stories as though they were a TV studio. They gather writers to make episodes that are serialized and released over the course of 10-16 weeks, much like television seasons. With reading times aimed at approximately 40 minutes per piece, these stories are pieces of a greater whole, the themes often intertwining into a larger narrative that all comes together once the full painting is unveiled.

What makes them special is that they also give readers both the ebook and audiobook version of the stories. Why read when you’re driving? Why listen when you’re sitting in a coffee shop? You choose the method by which you want to enjoy the story and Serial Box provides the means. As for pricing, it adjusts automatically depending on if you want single episodes or if you want an entire season.

As they explain it:
Serial Box, which NPR recently called “the HBO of reading,” produces original series that are released in ebook and audio episodes through their app(s), website, and third party retailers (iTunes, Amazon, etc). Readers/listeners pay $1.59 for individual episodes or a season pass or subscription for approximately 20% off the whole season (10-13 episodes). Serial Box brings the power of appointment-based consumption to reading for the first time since Charles Dickens & Little Nell.

So why are we telling you about Serial Box? Simple! We’ve got the exclusive cover reveal of their upcoming collection Silverwood: The Door. Featuring authors like Brian Keene, Richard Chizmar, Michelle Garza and Melissa Lason (Sisters of Slaughter), and Stephen Kozeniewski, the stories are based on Silverwood, the BlackBoxTV YouTube original series from Tony E. Valenzuela. The series will be coming out starting October 3.

Twin Peaks meets The X-files in this horror series full of homicidal boy scouts, ravenous black goo, mysterious doppelgangers, and a Stranger Things-style corporate conspiracy. Deep within the forest of Silverwood, California, a crack between dimensions has appeared. A dark force that lurks among the trees is growing stronger, determined to return home if it can only gather the strength to open the door—bad news for a Boy Scout troop and the employees of Hirsch Capital on a company retreat nearby. As their darkest fears and impulses power the mysterious force, their bonding exercises take a deadly turn. Will anyone be able to keep their minds long enough to close the door before our world is torn apart?

The cover gives a suggestion of what’s to come, including a strange creature emerging from a cordoned-off land, evil and menace lurking beneath its feet as nature itself gives birth to potential terror and destruction. If you find yourself fascinated by what Serial Box is putting together and really want to check out Silverwood: The Door, we’ve been given a 10% off code that is redeemable through October 2. All you have to do is click here. If the original YouTube series fascinated you, then I think you’re going to love what these authors are bringing to the Silverwood universe. Expanding it and fleshing it out in their own way, with their own imaginations, this story is going to venture into some truly dark territory.
