The #1 Thriller on Netflix for April is “Eerie, dark,” and “so fantastically shot”

The top genre offering on Netflix for the month of April is a Thai culinary thriller/drama that has fans calling attention to the strong performances from the lead characters, as well as the cinematography and the picture’s messaging and social commentary. I’m speaking, of course, about Sitisiri Mongkolsiri’s Hunger.
As one fan put it, “Hunger really showed the dark side of the culinary world.” While not necessarily a proper horror offering, viewers are drawing comparisons to celebrated efforts like Whiplash, The Menu, and the Oscar-winning horror picture Parasite. Now, that’s some pretty high praise, for sure.
Hunger stars Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying as Aoy and Nopachai Chaiyanam as Chef Paul. The narrative follows Aoy as she is discovered when her cuisine impresses an assistant sous chef at a trendy restaurant. On that basis, she is given the opportunity to leave the family business to work with a notorious chef who has a reputation for making amazing cuisine but is equally well-known for being rather challenging to work with.
This Netflix original film made its debut on the streamer April 6 and has continued to light up the charts in the days and weeks since its release. In fact, Hunger sits as the second most viewed feature around the world for the month of April.
The film is presented in Thai, with English subtitles. And it clocks in at just under two-and-a-half hours. So, while it is a bit of a time commitment, those that have taken the time to experience Hunger have had overwhelmingly positive reactions. You can peruse a sampling of the audience feedback below.
