Saban Films Acquires ‘The Exorcism of God’ As It Premieres at Fantastic Fest Today

Saban Films is closing a deal to buy The Exorcism of God, the VFX-rich Mexican horror drama from director Alejandro Hidalgo.
The film, which premieres at Fantastic Fest today, will be released by Saban Films in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, and South Africa, Deadline reports. XYZ Films will spearhead international sales in other territories.

The Exorcism of God is set in a remote Mexican town and centered around one Father Peter Williams (Will Beinbrink), an American exorcist who is possessed by the Devil and commits horrific sacrilege. His sin returns to haunt him 18 years later, setting off a battle within.
Hidalgo co-wrote the screenplay with Santiago Fernández Calvete. María Gabriela de Faría (Deadly Class) and Joseph Marcell (The Sandman) co-star in the film.
Hidalgo also serves as producer, alongside Epica Pictures, Inc.’s Joel Seidl. Producers Karim Kabche and Antonio Abdo of Kabche Film Productions financed the film.
In addition to The Exorcism of God, Saban Films’ growing genre slate includes Joel David Moore’s horror thriller Hide and Seek, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and Jared Cohn’s Reactor, co-starring Bruce Willis and Patrick Muldoon.
Saban Films’ Ness Saban handled the acquisition deal alongside Nate Bolotin of XYZ Films.
