COMMANDO NINJA is the New KUNG FURY and it Kicks Total Ass!

Over the past few years, a nostalgic revisit of the themes and aesthetics of the ’80s has become the du jour flavor of choice. Movies, TV shows, and video games are all attempting (many succeeding) to capture the magical feel of that gloriously overindulgent decade. Even beyond those mediums, there are creators who want to either ride that train or who genuinely want to offer something in that vein because they themselves are a product of or fondly remember that time. Enter: Commando Ninja.

If Michael Bay-esque explosions could have their own story, characters, and plot, mixed with a totally rad soundtrack (courtesy of Thomas Cappeau, Ogre, Volt Age, Flash Arnold, and Cobra Copter), then I think we’d begin to scratch the surface of what we’ve got here. A throwback to the over-the-top action films of the ’80s, Commando Ninja is an hour-plus long film that pits the titular character – who goes by the generic ’80s action star name John – against a, “…secret Ninja Organization, led by a Central-American dictator, who wants to create a new-world order… through time…”

Look, I can’t make you watch this movie (conveniently embedded above). But I would certainly be remiss if I didn’t say that you would seriously be missing out on one helluva good time if you passed it by. Hell, you can even make it a drinking game of sorts as there are references galore! See if you can spot nods to films like Rambo II and Turbo Kid and then let everyone know the other ones you found in the comments below.

Commando Ninja was written and directed by Benjamin Combes and stars Eric Carlesi, Philippe Allier, Olivier Dobremel, Stéphane Asensio, Cécile Fargues, Anaëlle Rincent, Charlotte Poncin, and Thyra Hann Phonephet.
