Director Kevin Carraway Talks Way of the WickedIn the new supernatural horror movie Way of the Wicked, Christian Slater lives up to his first name and plays a man of God. But he’s not without his flaws. As director Kevin Carraway told us, “It was definitely different for me to see Christian play that kind of dark person. He is such a fantastic actor that I knew he would bring that character to life.”

Even on set, watching some of the decisions he made, he is such a professional. I can totally understand why he has had such longevity in this business and I would love to work with him again in the future.”

Carraway said there was no ego, not even with the press mobbing him the moment he stepped onto set. “When he first showed up, reporters wanted to interview Christian. The energy on the set was amazing. He would go around and speak with everyone. He took a lot of pictures with the crew members when we wrapped up. Christian went out of his way to find me and tell me that it was a pleasure working with me. As a director, he makes you feel so comfortable. The first day I spoke with Christian, was the first day of shooting. Instantly he broke the ice. I worked with some difficult actors and he is definitely not one of them.

Without them even meeting first, Slater signed onto Carraway movie, because he really liked the script. That made it easier to attract other names in the genre. “[Since] the first actor to sign on was Christian Slater, then we got Vinnie Jones to come and play John Elliott, and the rest of the cast came from Canada. We did a lot of casting in Vancouver and I was delighted to find that there were some many talented and wonderful actors to work with. We got really lucky.”

Carraway says, “Part of the motivation for Vinnie was a chance to play something a little different because he always plays the tough guy characters. This time we got a chance to really see Vinnie play a loving Dad who is definitely a flawed character. He has his own issues but he is trying to reconnect with his daughter after having lost his wife. Those were the things that Vinnie brought up in conversation with me. He talked a lot about his daughter so I think he was able to connect with his character.”

The teenagers in the cast are lesser known, but no less talent. “We found Emily who plays Vinnie’s daughter and Jake Croker who plays Robbie,” said Carraway. “When we first saw Emily and Jake walk in the room we kinda knew that that those were two characters that were really interesting and caught my attention right away.”

Carraway says although the movie is more a supernatural suspenser, fans of horror should still like it. “We have some really cool stuff happening. You got to have some blood and guts and we try not to go overboard but there are some gory moments in the movie. We have some murders taking place. This movie has all the elements. It has murder, intrigue, suspense and it also has love. I hope the audience can connect with it.”
