The folks behind “Supernatural” certainly knew what they were doing when they cast Misha Collins as an angel… few people have devoted more of themselves to charitable work than he has, and he has announced that GISHWHES (the Greatest International Scavenger Hunt the World Has Ever Seen) is back.

The event is a worldwide scavenger hunt that tens of thousands of people from over 100 countries participate in each year as they complete exciting, inspiring, and unconventional challenges (“Items”) intended to break people outside of their comfort zone, spread kindness, and create social good within their respective communities.

We have a highlight video and more info to share below.

From the Press Release:
GISHWHES is back for another year. The annual, seven-time Guinness World Record-winning worldwide scavenger hunt created by The CW’s “Supernatural” star Misha Collins will take place August 1-8, 2015, in more than 100 countries. Tens of thousands of participants from over 100 countries will complete bizarre, beautiful, and inspiring challenges (“Items”) that will encourage laughter, disbelief, and occasionally tears.

This year’s winning team will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the jungles of Costa Rica with Misha Collins. Teams or individuals can register for the 2015 scavenger hunt at gishwhes.com until Monday, July 20th.

During its first four years, the Hunt has had some surprising impact worldwide, with thousands of hunters (“Gishers”) participating in crowd-stopping public performances, tear-jerking community service projects, and creating newsworthy art. Last year the Hunt’s impact traveled to outer space when NASA named a mountain on Mars “Gishwhes.” This year William Shatner has formed a team, with additional celebrity guests to be announced in the coming weeks.

“The Hunt has become this wild, crazy event where I think participants surprise themselves with what they achieve and what they’re willing to do. For one week they really get to step out of what ‘normal’ is for them and experience this wild and scary reality where anything is possible,” said Misha Collins, founder of GISHWHES . “Anything goes with the Hunt, and the testimonials range from ‘This has been the most life-changing thing I’ve ever done!’ to ‘You broke up my marriage, Misha!’”

Each team is comprised of 15 participants. Individuals register and can either be assigned into a team of 14 new global friends, or they can build a team using their friends and family. Partial teams of friends are accepted as well, and the Hunt’s organizers will match those teams with other worldwide participants to create a full team at the end of registration. There is no need to live in the same city, or even country, to complete these tasks. The team that scavenges the most items with the highest quality of submissions joins Misha Collins on the all-expenses-paid trip to an exotic locale. Previous winners of GISHWHES have traveled with Collins to a haunted castle in Scotland and sailed on a pirate ship in Croatia.

Past items have included “kindness” acts like performing a sock puppet show at a children’s hospital or feeding the homeless to “artistic” tasks such as creating portraits of celebrities out of coffee grounds or stop-motion videos of cabbage patch dolls to “wacky” challenges such as dressing up as frogs and leap-frogging in Starbucks or going through a TSA checkpoint in snorkeling gear.

GISHWHES is the single largest donor to Random Acts 501c3 and has broken several Guinness World Records, including “the most charitable pledges worldwide” and, just as important, “the most individuals dressed as French Maids in one location.”
