Horror Filmmaker Mike Mendez Creates Heartbreaking Montage of Weekend’s Unrest

It’s been almost impossible to carry on “business as usual” this week. In addition to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, America has been gripped by civil unrest since the in-custody death of George Floyd on May 25th. Scenes of protest and looting have been playing nonstop on the news, and the agony on display is emotionally devastating.

Horror filmmaker Mike Mendez has been keeping us entertained with light-hearted quarantine-themed short films, but this weekend, he did something different. Mendez assembled some of the most intense and important footage from this weekend’s unrest, set against The Beatles “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”.

Give it a spin below.

Mendez posted the video on Facebook with the following statement:

“We all have different ways of handling our emotions. Watching this past weekend’s events it was hard to concentrate or work on anything creative, but I needed to do something. So I made a montage of powerful images from Saturday’s protests. It was cathartic for me, so I’m sharing it, but please be warned there’s a lot of upsetting footage in there. Stay safe everyone. Love each other. #blacklivesmatter

All of us at Dread Central send our thanks and appreciation to Mike Mendez for creating this powerful montage. We can’t look away from the horrors of our current reality.
