Silent Night, Deadly Podcast: Ep5 – NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS (1975)

You asked for it, Billy Peltzer asked for it, Jack Frost asked for it, and now Dread Central is proud to present the year-round Christmas horror podcast you’ve long been waiting for…Silent Night, Deadly Podcast! Chris, Kieran, Matt, and Rob – collectively known as “The Jingle Boys” to their friends and “The Christmas Horribles” to Rob’s wife – are prepared to take you on one demented journey through a winter wonderland of the best and worst tinsel terror the big (and small) screen has to offer.

Rape/revenge films are among the ugliest kinds of movies the horror genre is home to for obvious reasons. From the inciting act itself to the grisly violence that follows, the visuals and themes are typically unattractive on their face. What Aldo Lado’s 1975 film Night Train Murders presupposes is… what if man’s most vile impulses were set loose during the jolly joys of Christmas-time and captured with undeniably beautiful cinematography?

Episode five of our equally beautiful little podcast finally leaves the 21st century behind to dig into the nasty, grimy, and frequently unpleasant corners of the Christmas horror sub-genre. Gone are the varying degrees of comedy found in the films covered in our previous four episodes, and in their place? A deadly reminder that traveling during the holidays is the goddamn worst. Are we all aboard for this mean-spirited ride on the rails, or are there dissenters hiding out in the bad taste baggage department. You’ll have to listen to find out as sexual shenanigans, assault, murder, cruelty, and misery await all ye who enter… and Night Train Murders gets pretty rough too.
