There’s nothing more confusing in the world of film than release dates, and that statement rings true now more than ever. Keeping up with VOD dates, in particular, can be a real bitch, and in this new regular feature we’re here to help out.

We promise, from this point forward, to do our best in letting you know when new horror titles hit VOD outlets, precisely on the days that they’re available to stream. This way you’ll never miss a beat, and you never again have to wonder what’s coming out when.

Sound good? Then let’s kick things off with today’s VOD releases, which take us into sci-fi and paranormal territory!

First up, Ethan Hawke and Sarah Snook star in the time-travel flick Predestination (review), which our own Staci Layne Wilson gave a 3-1/2 star rating. Directed by Michael and Peter Spierig (Daybreakers), the film is available today both in limited theaters and on VOD outlets via Sony.

Based on the short story “All You Zombies” by Robert A. Heinlein, the film chronicles the life of a Temporal Agent (Hawke) sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to ensure the continuation of his law enforcement career. Now, on his final assignment, the Agent must recruit his younger self while pursuing the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time.

Also available for rental today, courtesy of IFC Midnight, is the second feature film from Grace director Paul Solet, titled Dark Summer. Written by Mike Le, the film stars Peter Stormare, Keir Gilchrist, and Grace Phipps and is of the paranormal variety.

Revolving around 17-year-old Daniel Austin, Dark Summer finds the teen on house arrest for his obsessive online stalking of his classmate and crush, Mona. Without a cell phone or internet and with his single mother away on a business trip, Daniel figures out a way to piggyback onto his neighbors’ wireless signal and, believing he’s surfing off the grid, uses his time to check in on his friends – and Mona. But what Daniel didn’t expect is for Mona to check up on him. And what she does next shakes him to his very core.
