The Best Horror Movies Now Streaming On Redbox

Last Updated: April 3, 2024

Redbox is not just a kiosk outside Walgreens anymore. It is now an app that curates cool monthly lists of horror movies you can stream for free. You can download the app on all your smart devices to unlock an endless list of overlooked, indie, and bloody titles. If this is new information to you,I highly suggest you cancel whatever you are doing and head over to the streamer now. It is one of the few apps that gives me the same rush as going to a video store and picking out scary movies based solely on the cover art.

Because the Redbox library is so massive, they are only adding an unlucky 13 titles this April. However, there are so many heavy hitters in this lineup that I can’t be mad. I am also happy almost half of them are from between 2019 and 2022. That is a gray area for movies because many theaters were shut down for a spell during that time. So, quite a few of these movies never got proper releases, or the chance to be discovered by people who will love them. I plan to gobble these titles up as they hit the streamer and be obnoxious about the ones that are too good to continue being slept on. However, in the meantime, I picked five films I think are the best bets this month. Check them out, and tell people about them if you like them.

An Intrusion

A man fears the person stalking his family might be connected to a secret he’s kept from everyone, including the detectives trying to catch the culprit. Not going to lie, I am going into this discarded gem mostly because it is weird no one is talking about it. It only earned one critic review on Rotten Tomatoes after a limited theatrical release in 2021. All of which might explain why so few people have seen it. However, Keir Gilchrist (It Follows), Billy Boyd (Seed of Chucky), and Scout Taylor-Compton (The Long Night) are in it, so I have to investigate.

Darkness Visible

Ronnie returns to India to investigate his mother’s mysterious death. However, the more he uncovers, the more inner darkness begins to creep toward the surface. This movie is a mystery about witchcraft, and the two locations are London and India. That whole last sentence is my personal summoning circle, so of course, I am geeked that Redbox is giving us free access to this one. I am also just obsessed with movies with POC leads because they are still way too few and far between.

Eloise

A group of friends break into an abandoned asylum to search for a birth certificate that would grant one of them a large inheritance. Chace Crawford (The Boys) is cool but this movie is on my list because of Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Wrong Turn). I will go anywhere my girl goes because she has taste. I’m still salty that her show Tru Calling was canceled in 2005. So, when I tell you I’m basically a Dushku fan account, I am serious. Not only do I plan to watch this movie while it’s on the streamer, but I plan to make some friends watch it with me too.

The Inhabitants

A young couple buys a New England bed and breakfast and soon discovers secrets in the walls. I don’t care who you are haunted house horror is fun. Even when the movie isn’t great, there’s something comforting about seeing people who can afford to own property fight the ghosts that came with their land. This movie was also written and directed by Michael Rasmussen and Shawn Rasmussen (who wrote Crawl and The Ward). So, you already know it’s going to be stressful.

Living With Chucky

Filmmaker Kyra Elise Gardner gives viewers an intimate documentary that unpacks how her dad’s work on the Child’s Play franchise shaped her life. She snags interviews with her dad, Tony Gardner, Brad Dourif, Fiona Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, and Don Mancini himself. I thought this was a charming little film about everyone’s favorite killer doll. I am happy Living With Chucky is coming to Redbox so everyone can see this movie I reviewed as part of a festival almost two years ago.

Everything coming to Redbox this April

Anonymous Animals (2020)

This free streamer has literally thrown a wrench in my viewing plans, and I need to recalibrate immediately.
