Behold: Everything Horror Coming to Netflix in February 2023

It’s February, meaning a new collection of genre offerings is gearing up to bow on Netflix. The additions, which are staggered throughout the upcoming month, encompass a mixture of horror, true, crime, and dark mystery. We have the full list available at the bottom of this post.
The first title to catch our collective eye is Re/Member. It’s a Japanese export based on the manga series Karada Sagashi (by Katsutoshi Murase and Welzard). The flick takes place in a time loop where six students are destined to repeat the same day until they can successfully locate the remains of a fellow student. At the helm of this upcoming offering is Eiichiro Hasumi, who previously directed several episodes of Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. It’s tough to say for sure how a film will hit from just the trailer. But I have to say I was pretty captivated by the preview for Re/Member. It looks like it’s going to be dark, atmospheric, and intense. I will absolutely be planning to check this one out when it debuts on the streamer February 14th.
Also of interest to horror fans is the upcoming series Red Rose. Season one is poised to drop on the platform February 15th. The program, which focuses on a group of young people and their online personas, has already been released to critical acclaim in its native UK. And as of publication, the series sits at a 100% critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Some fans and critics have compared the show to Black Mirror, which certainly has me anxiously anticipating this upcoming offering.
As someone that is both fascinated and terrified by the criminal mind, I am particularly curious about the upcoming Netflix docuseries Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal. The show is set to drop on Netflix on February 22nd and will cover the case of former attorney Alex Murdaugh. Murdaugh stands accused of killing his wife and son, whose bodies were discovered on the Murdaugh family’s land in South Carolina. The series will examine the wealthy family’s storied history, uncovering new details about the case and the family’s sordid past.
Another promising addition is Triptych. This upcoming series follows Rebecca, a woman who discovers she is a triplet who was separated from her siblings at birth. With that newfound information, she pieces together the details of her mysterious past. What really intrigues me is that this Mexican mystery program is inspired by actual events. That distinction always adds an additional layer of excitement and intrigue. Just knowing that this series is grounded in some level of truth has me all the more excited to dive in when it bows on the platform on February 22nd.
As most fans of lycanthropic cinema are aware, there seems to be a shortage of epic werewolf movies. We have the classics like An American Werewolf in London and The Howling. And more recent standout efforts like Ginger Snaps. But the truly great offerings seem to be few and far between. With that in mind, I am anxiously awaiting the debut of the Netflix original film Viking Wolf on February 3rd. The film follows a teenager who has recently relocated to a new town. While attending a party, she bears witness to a murder that appears to have been committed by a wolf-human hybrid. Sign. Me. Up.
