‘Shelby Oaks’: Found Footage Project Breaks Record For Most Funded Horror Film On Kickstarter

It’s official. The found footage project Shelby Oaks is now the highest funded Kickstarter horror film ever, only a handful of weeks into its campaign. The indie horror film hails from YouTuber/filmmaker Chris Stuckmann and promises to pull from a modern Internet legend surrounding batch of MIA paranormal investigators.
A historic moment for horror, Shelby Oaks has already managed to earn itself a whopping $650,000 from about seven thousand backers. This is especially impressive since it only launched on Kickstarter less than a month ago.
Here is how the Kickstarter campaign describes Shelby Oaks:
Set and filmed in Ohio in partnership with Paper Street Pictures, Shelby Oaks will be Chris Stuckmann’s directing debut and first feature, based on an original script also written by Chris.
Shot as a traditional feature, but with some elements of found footage, Shelby Oaks is a horror film about missing paranormal investigators (the paranormal paranoids), the dark legacy they uncovered, and the far-reaching effects their investigation has as Mia searches for her sister Riley, the lead paranormal investigator, 12 years later.
As Mia uncovers new and disturbing leads related to Riley’s disappearance, she uncovers evidence of a hidden supernatural evil dating all the way back to her and Riley’s childhood.

Aaron B. Koontz of Paper Street Pictures is producing Shelby Oaks. The film is said to be a hybrid of documentary, traditional, and found footage film styles. Cited references include The Blair Witch Project and Lake Mungo.
Subsequently, production on the already historical project will begin this May in Cleveland. “Every dollar we are raising is going onto the screen,” Koontz said according to Deadline. “This is an ambitious script and day by day our scope and opportunities to help realize Chris’ vision become more and more tangible all because of this campaign. We knew we had something special, but this outpour of support has been absolutely humbling and so amazing to see.”
