Production for the upcoming folk horror film Lord of Misrule, from director William Brent Bell (The Boy, The Devil Inside), is now underway in Hertfordshire, UK. And as Deadline reports, Tuppence Middleton (Downton Abbey, David Fincher’s Mank) and Ralph Ineson (The Green Knight, The Witch) are now slated to star in the movie.

Lord of Misrule is based on a screenplay by Tom de Ville, whose horror credits include The Quiet Ones and the Hannibal TV series. The film takes place in a town in rural England and is centered around the disappearance of a young girl. The girl’s mother, Rebecca Holland, leads the locals’ search for her daughter, and uncovers disturbing secrets about the village along the way. Eventually, Rebecca is forced to make enormous sacrifices to save her daughter from the clutches of evil.

“It is so rare to find such well-developed, culturally relevant, and beautifully dark material as Lord Of Misrule,” Bell told Deadline. “Tom de Ville’s wicked script has given us the foundation to build the kind of talented cast and crew who will bring to life a film that will haunt audiences for years to come.”

Most recently, Bell also helmed the upcoming horror prequel Orphan: The First Kill, which stars Isabelle Furhman, Julia Stiles, and Kelsey Grammer.

Bell further serves as producer of Lord of Misrule, with The Machine Room. Deepak Niyar and Nick Bower of Riverstone Pictures will also produce, alongside Jason Newmark and Laurie Cooke of Bigscope films. Additionally, James Tomlinson and Alison Brister will be producing for REP Productions.
