‘The Lost Boys’: Upcoming Reboot Casts Its Leads

Warner Bros. is finally heading back to Santa Carla for more vampiric coming-of-age mayhem. The Lost Boys will be written by Randy McKinnon (DC’s upcoming Static Shock) and is under the direction of Jonathon Entwistle (dir. The End of the F****** World).

We also have exciting casting news today via Entertainment Weekly: Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) and Jaeden Martell (It) are taking the lead roles in the film. These rising stars appear in two of the most profitable and well-received franchises in modern horror history, so this casting comes as no surprise.

The first film in the franchise surfaced back in 1987 and became an instant coming-of-age horror classic. Its story revolved around two brothers who have moved into a Californian beach town that’s infested with vampires. With no other options, the siblings team up to fight the sexy vampires stalking the boardwalks of Santa Carla.

The Lost Boys was first directed by action aficionado Joel Schumacher and starred an unforgettable ensemble of late-80s headliners. Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Jami Gertz, Alex Winter, Corey Feldman and Corey Haim all appear in the vampire classic. And like any teen classic worth it salt, the adult cast of The Lost Boys was also stacked full of memorable performances, including ones from Dianne Wiest and Edward Herrmann.

This won’t be the first time Warner Bros has reopened the Santa Clara beaches. Back in the mid-2000s we saw the DTV releases of both Lost Boys: The Tribe and Lost Boys: The Thirst.

According to EW, the new iteration will take place in the modern day.

Lastly, what do you think of this casting for The Lost Boys? Are you excited about the new film, or should we be leaving classics like this one alone? Let me know on Twitter via @joshkorngut. I’m always down to talk about 80s horror!
