Saw II–IV director Darren Lynn Bousman’s Spiral: From the Book of Saw with Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson hits next month. And today, Bousman teases macabre traps, unexpected twists, and even a puppet.

Bousman tells ComicBook.com: “The DNA of the movie comes from the universe of Saw, no doubt, but it’s its own thing. I love the world and script that Josh [Stolberg], Pete [Goldfinger], and Chris Rock created here. It feels familiar, yet it’s completely unique and different from what has come before it. I think this movie honors the mythology of the past films, yet charts course for something entirely different. Longtime fans will still get the things they crave; macabre traps, unexpected twists, (and even a puppet), but Chris, Max, Samuel, and Marisol [Nichols] elevate this into something truly unique and special.”
Synopsis: A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Rock) and his rookie partner (Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

Darren Lynn Bousman directs Spiral: From the Book of Saw from a screenplay written by Josh Stolberg and also Peter Goldfinger from a story by Chris Rock. Based on the original film by James Wan (The Conjuring) and Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man).
Chris Rock also stars along with Max Minghella, Marisol Nichols, and Samuel L. Jackson. The new film is once again produced by Oren Koules and Mark Burg. Charlie Clouser will also provide the score. Spiral: From the Book of Saw hits May 14, 2021.
Meanwhile, the first flick followed two men (Leigh Whannell and Cary Elwes) who are chained to pipes in a filthy bathroom. They realize they’ve been trapped by a sadistic serial killer nicknamed “Jigsaw” and must complete his perverse puzzle or perish.
Then a whole bunch of sequels.
The last flick Jigsaw began after a series of murders bear all the markings of the Jigsaw killer. Law enforcement officials find themselves chasing the ghost of a man who has been dead for over a decade. And they become embroiled in a new game that’s only just begun. Is John Kramer back from the dead to remind the world to be grateful for the gift of life? Or is this a trap set by a killer with designs of his own?
