Tim Burton Reacts to New EDWARD SCISSORHANDS Commercial

For those who have been living under a rock, Timothee Chalamet played the son of Edward Scissorhands in Cadillac’s killer Super Bowl commercial. And today original director Tim Burton shares his thoughts of the spiritual sequel with Winona Ryder.

Burton said in a statement to the LA Times: “It’s rare when a work you’re proud of continues to live on and evolve with the times, even after 30 years. I’m glad to see Edgar coping with the new world! I hope both fans and those being introduced to Edward Scissorhands for the first time enjoy it.”

Chalamet also tells Vogue: “Working with Winona was a total dream come true. She’s an incredible actress and continues to be an American icon.”

Ryder also told Vanity Fair: “It was quite a moment. Very surreal … I was really blown away by him and everyone’s work putting the character together. He is such a beautiful guy, so talented, so incredibly kind, and unique. Really the perfect person to embody that character.”

The film centers on a scientist (Vincent Price) who builds an animated human being, Edward (Depp). The scientist dies before he can finish assembling Edward, leaving the young man with a freakish appearance and scissor blades instead of hands. Loving suburban saleswoman Peg (Dianne Wiest) discovers Edward and takes him home. There he falls for Peg’s teen daughter (Winona Ryder). However, despite his kindness and artistic talent, Edward’s hands make him an outcast.
