UTOPIA Canceled After One Season By Amazon

Amazon has canceled their sci-fi/thriller series Utopia after one season.

Gillian Flynn (Gone Girl) adapted the British series. Utopia stars John Cusack (1408), Jessica Rothe (Happy Death Day), and Rainn Wilson (The Office).

The series premiered back in September to mediocre reviews.

That said, Stephen King dug the show. He tweeted: “I’m loving UTOPIA, on Amazon Prime,” King wrote on Twitter. “Might not be everyone’s cup of tea, given the times we’re living in, but it has the slow build to full steam that I associate with page-turning novels. Horrifying, violent, and occasionally laugh-out-loud funny.”

Ashleigh LaThrop co-stars with Dan Byrd, Desmin Borges, and Christopher Denham. Javon Walton joins them along with Farrah Mackenzie, Cory Michael Smith, Jeanine Serralles, and Sasha Lane.

Jessica Rhodes, Sharon Hall, Karen Wilson, and Dennis Kelly executive produce.

Utopia centers on a group of comic fans who bond over their obsession with a seemingly fictional comic. Together they also unearth hidden meanings cloaked within the comic. And they realize these are not just the makings of a conspiracy; they are also very real dangers coming alive right now in their world. The adventure brings them face-to-face with the comic’s lead character. And she joins them on their mission to save the world while also harboring secrets of her own.
