Sarah Paulson’s New Thriller RUN Nabs Hulu’s Biggest Opening Weekend Ever

Director Aneesh Chaganty’s (Searching) Run with Sarah Paulson (AHS, Ratched) hit Hulu on November 20th. And today we hear the thriller was Hulu’s most-watched movie ever during its opening weekend. And has ranked as the most talked-about Hulu Original Film to date on Twitter.
Through its first three days, Run beat all previously Hulu Originals AND licensed SVOD film titles. Palms Springs held the previous opening-weekend record.

And if all that wasn’t enough to get you to check out the flick, this morning, The Stand and The Shining author Stephen King took to Twitter to praise the film, writing: “RUN (Hulu): No extraneous bullshit. Just nerve-splintering terror.”
And it’s not just Stephen King out there praising the new movie. In fact, it currently holds a 92% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Solid acting and expertly ratcheted tension help Run transcend its familiar trappings to deliver a delightfully suspenseful thriller.

An intimate thriller, the film takes place in one house and focuses almost exclusively on just two characters: Diane (Paulson) and her 17-year-old wheelchair-bound daughter Chloe (newcomer Kiera Allen). Diane raises her daughter in isolation, keeping her totally sequestered from the outside world. But when Chloe uncovers her mother’s sinister secrets, everything she knows begins to unravel.
The official synopsis goes like this:
They say you can never escape a mother’s love… but for Chloe, that’s not a comfort — it’s a threat. There’s something unnatural, even sinister about the relationship between Chloe (newcomer Kiera Allen) and her mom, Diane (Sarah Paulson). Diane has raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth, and there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp. From the visionary writers, producers and director of the breakout film Searching, comes a suspense thriller that shows that when mom gets a little too close, you need to RUN.
