Josh Boone Claims THE NEW MUTANTS Can’t Debut on Disney+ or Hulu

The Fault in Our Stars and The Stand director Josh Boone says his X-Men horror movie The New Mutants with Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams can’t debut on Disney’s two streaming platforms Disney+ or Hulu.
Boone tells Collider: “With most movies, you sign contracts that guarantee a theatrical release, so it needs to open to ever go digital in the first place. We just, too, would like to see people to see it in the theater. But it needs to obviously be at the right time when it’s safe to go back.”
So what he’s really saying is that The New Mutants could, like, totally debut on Disney+ and/or Hulu – they just don’t want it to. Good plan.
Directed by Boone from a screenplay he wrote with Knate Lee, The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga. It’s set to hit on August 28, 2020.
