New Behind The Scenes Photo Of Joaquin Phoenix Dancing On JOKER Steps Shared By Director Todd Philips

Since its release last October, Joker has become so ingrained in popular culture that many of the scenes from the film are now iconic moments of modern cinema. We expect film enthusiasts will be talking about Joker for years to come, and thanks to director Todd Philips, we’ve now been given a new look at the making of one of the most famous scenes in the entire movie.

A new behind the scenes photo showing Joaquin Phoenix dancing on the outdoor stairs during the production of Joker has been shared by Philips, and can be viewed in the embedded Instagram post below. Philips accompanied the image with a description reading “Weekend. Although at this point, what’s the difference? Stay safe.”

In the picture, which has never before been shown publicly, we see Phoenix in full costume as Arthur Fleck, while a camera attached to a crane hovers overhead. Phoenix is leaning back in the shot, so his face is not shown, but we can still clearly see his arms reaching out in a dance position. While it’s only a single image, we are still thankful for a new behind the scenes look at an iconic moment from a classic film.

While it takes place in the fictional Gotham City, Joker was shot almost entirely in New York City with an estimated production budget of around $70 million. The scene where Fleck dances on the stairs has become so recognisable that the stairs themselves, which are located on West 167th Street in NYC, have now become a popular tourist attraction.

Joker made history by becoming the first R-rated film to surpass $1 billion at the global box office, while Phoenix won an Oscar for his performance. The DC Comics adaptation also stars Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro, Frances Conroy, and Leigh Gill, and due to its incredible success at a box office, a sequel seems like a strong possibility.
