Author Teases BIRD BOX 2 in Development at Netflix

Josh Malerman’s Bird Box sequel novel Malorie hits shelves this month. And today he teases Netflix is developing a sequel to the hit flick.

Malerman tells Inverse: “I can’t say much, but I can say that it is in development. Sometimes it’s weird, all this secrecy, but I’m game. Malorie opens at the school for the blind, which is where the movie ends. Then it jumps a few years later, and it really takes off 10 years after that.”

Bird Box was directed by Susanne Bier from a screenplay by Eric Heisserer, and based on the novel of the same name by Josh Malerman.

When a mysterious force decimates the population, only one thing is certain — if you see it, you die. The survivors must now avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears. Searching for hope and a new beginning, a woman and her children embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary. To make it, they’ll have to cover their eyes from the evil that chases them — and complete the trip blindfolded.

Rated R for violence, bloody images, language and brief sexuality, it sports a 63% on Rotten Tomatoes with this Critics Consensus: Bird Box never quite reaches its intriguing potential, but strong acting and an effectively chilly mood offer intermittently creepy compensation.
