This Day in Horror History: Happy Birthday Doug Jones

The most famous body-actor of the 21st Century turns 60 years old today. Tall and lanky Doug Jones has played a host of otherworldly creatures, including The Pale Man and The Fawn in Pan’s Labyrinth, Abe Sapien in Guillermo del Toro’s Hellboy movies, The Ice Cream Man in Legion, and Edith’s Mother and Lady Sharpe in Crimson Peak–to name just a few!

Jones also plays Langdon in 5th Passenger, a sci-fi thriller distributed by Epic Pictures (Dread Central’s parent company). If you missed it in 2018 and want to peep a lesser-known Doug Jones flick, check out the trailer and synopsis below.

Synopsis:
The year: 2151. After the Yellowstone Volcano erupts throwing the Earth into chaos and class struggle, a pregnant officer, Miller, and her crew struggle to survive in an escape pod with limited resources as they try to reach a new home planet. Running low on air, the team must work together when a vicious alien boards their ship and hunts them down, determined to become the dominant species. But the key to survival may be the secret that is buried deep within Miller’s own mind.

Trivia:
Not only did Doug portray all four Imps in the film Doom (2005), but he was also asked by director Andrzej Bartkowiak during filming to choreograph the movements of the Czech dancers who were hired to play Zombies. (Source)

Personal Quote:
[Advice to budding filmmakers] “Do not be afraid, ever, of approaching the talent you want in your film. Because actors at any level want to be in front of the camera, that’s what we’re built to do. Actors want to act. So, if we’re free, we have the time, and you have a project that is a role that we haven’t played before, or it’s written in a witty way, or tells a story that we want to be a part of, we’ll do it! And the best thing is to have your pitch. If you have no money but you’ve got a lot of heart, pitch the hell out of it! And, if you have a good story in your head, don’t let it get over-processed by too many decision makers. Now, of course, that’s what the studio system is all about [laughs], but do your darndest to stay true to your vision.” (Source)
