SCREAM 5 Sports Amazing Script That Does The Legacy Justice

Radio Silence’s Scream 5 is all set to begin shooting later this year in Wilmington, North Carolina with David Arquette (and maybe even Neve Campbell) returning and Spyglass intending to bring back more legacy castmembers.

And today the directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett tease that the new film sports an amazing script does that legacy justice.

Specifically, the Ready or Not filmmakers say: “It’s impossible to fully express how much Wes Craven’s work and the Scream movies, in particular, mean to us as fans and have influenced us as storytellers. Kevin Williamson’s incredible stories have entertained and inspired us for decades and we’re insanely honored to have the opportunity to be a part of the cinematic world Wes and Kevin so brilliantly created together. Jamie and Guy’s amazing script does that legacy justice and we’re so excited to bring the next chapter of Scream to life.”

Wes Craven re-invented and revitalized the slasher-horror genre with the original horror classic, which manages to be funny, clever, and scary, as a fright-masked knife maniac stalks high-school students in middle-class suburbia. Craven is happy to provide both tension and self-parody as the body count mounts.

The film sports a 79% on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Horror icon Wes Craven’s subversive deconstruction of the genre is sly, witty, and surprisingly effective as a slasher film itself, even if it’s a little too cheeky for some.

Scream is directed by Wes Craven from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson. Cathy Konrad and Cary Woods produced and it starred Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, and Drew Barrymore.
