It’s official. On the heels of the success of writer-director Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man, Blumhouse’s next Monsterverse movie will be a modern take on Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Jennifer’s BodyDestroyer, and The Invitation director Karyn Kusam will helm the modern-day adaptation from screenwriters Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay are writing the script.

And today, Black Swan and Destroyer actor Sebastian Stan says he wants to play the lead role.

Stan told THR: “I already emailed [director Karyn Kusam] about that. I said, ‘You know I’m from Romania, right?’ and she goes, ‘Yes, yes, it’s very early — and there’s a pandemic. Hopefully, we’ll see you in four years.‘” He continued: “I loved her as a director [on Destroyer] because she was so specific with me from the get-go. She also really allowed me to discover it on my own. We talked about the tattoos, the look, his history. … It was very collaborative before we started, and then, when we started, it was actually very specific. She was one of those directors that made me feel so safe and confident in my choices, simply by the way she communicated with me. I think that came from her absolute confidence in what she wanted and what she saw.”

Now I don’t know about you, but my favortie take on the classic character is director Francis Ford Coppola’s 1992 adaptation with Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves, Richard E. Grant, Cary Elwes, Billy Campbell, Monica Bellucci, and Tom Waits as Renfield.

Rated R for sexuality and horror violence, Francis Ford Coppola’s film sports a 71% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus that reads: Overblown in the best sense of the word, Francis Ford Coppola’s vision of Bram Stoker’s Dracula rescues the character from decades of campy interpretations — and features some terrific performances to boot.

The story centers on a young lawyer Jonathan Harker who is sent to Dracula’s castle to finalize a land deal, but when the Count sees a photo of Harker’s fiancée, Mina, the spitting image of his dead wife, he imprisons him and sets off for London to track her down.
