FINAL DESTINATION: Terry Originally Puked Her Intestines Out In GATES OF HELL Homage

Final Destination turns 20 this year. And in celebration, screenwriter/creator Jeffrey Reddick talked a bit about his original script Flight 180 – which was way more disturbing.

This includes a much more prolonged and graphic scene featuring Terry (Amanda Detmer) puking up her intestines in an homage to The Beyond director Lucio Fulci’s Gates of Hell.

Reddick tells Consequence of Sound: “Terri was still dating Carter. But because he was so demanding of her, she was bulimic. She died earlier in my draft, and Carter was haunted by her. She shows up and torments him at a subway station, saying, “Do you know what I did to myself to look beautiful for you?” She starts puking her intestines out, which is an homage to Gates of Hell, an old Italian horror film. That drives Carter to jump in front of the train.”

Gates of Hell AKA City of the Living Dead was directed by Lucio Fulci from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Dardano Sacchetti. Mino Loy produced and it starred Christopher George, Catriona MacColl, Carlo de Mejo, Antonella Interlenghi, and Giovanni Lombardo Radice. Fabio Frizzi provided the score. Medusa Distribuzione unleashed the film back on August 1, 1980.
