WiHM Highlight: Photographer Ama Lea

Ama Lea was raised in Stephen King Country, Bangor, Maine where she felt a connection to the horror genre from a very early age. She spent her youth honing her photography skills in the local cemeteries while making films on camcorders, editing between VCRs.
After High School, Ama moved to Boston where she majored in editorial photography at New England School of Photography. Soon after, she attended graduate school at Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara, California where she majored in Fashion Photography and Film Studies. She was valedictorian of both schools.
From there she went on to become a celebrity photographer for many top magazines such as Inked, AP, Revolver, Zink and many more. She worked within the horror industry shooting a fine art photo series entitled “The Bloody Best” that included portraits of legends in the horror industry. This led to her accepting the position as photographer for Fangoria Magazine where she had the honor of working with legends such as Roger Corman, Wes Craven, and many more.
Meanwhile, she began her career in filmmaking by writing and directing several shorts and participating inThe ABC’s of Death 2.5 for Alamo Drafthouse; she also directs a segment of the upcoming horror anthology Deathcember for Epic Pictures (Dread Central’s parent company).

In 2016 Ama launched the overnight horror sensation, Year of Fear, a twelve-month calendar featuring photographs of the sexiest men in horror. She also owns the horror clothing company Poltergeists and Paramours and runs the YouTube Channel The Midnight Company.
Ama is currently working for various publications as an editorial/celebrity photographer, and directing various film projects. All of us here at Dread Central are honored to highlight her achievements in this Women in Horror Month highlight!
