John Krasinski Frontrunner For BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN Reboot
You may remember that Universal notoriously shut down the production of Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh director Bill Condon’s planned reboot of Bride of Frankenstein with Angelina Jolie and Javier Bardem after Tom Cruise’s The Mummy bombed.
But thanks to a new “creative mandate” at Universal, a series of edgier (and more affordable) takes on their classic movie monsters – such as Dracula, Wolfman, the Mummy, Frankenstein, and of course Blumhouse’s The Invisible Man – are back in the works.
And today we have word that Spider-Man and Ghostbusters producer Amy Pascal is trying to bring Bride of Frankenstein back from the dead with some of Hollywood’s top horror talent.
Filmmakers that have been approached include John Krasinski (A Quiet Place), Sam Raimi (Evil Dead), Elizabeth Banks (Charlie’s Angels), and Paul Feig (Ghostbusters: Answer the Call).
That said, Krasinski seems to be the current front-runner for the film as Raimi has moved on to helming Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness, Banks has moved on to The Invisible Woman, and Feig has taken the reins of an original monster mash dubbed Dark Army.
Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp (who was involved in the abandoned Dark Universe version) is still on board. And, supposedly, Angelina Jolie is still committed to the character.
A source at Universal Pictures tells Variety: “Amy [ Pascal] expressed interest in being involved with The Bride of Frankenstein, and just as the studio has done with numerous other filmmakers, we empowered her to explore a new vision for the Universal monster character and come back with a new and inventive take. Nothing has been solidified in an official capacity.”
