Born on this day in 1965: musician/director Rob Zombie
Born Robert Cummings, Zombie has been heavily influenced by horror movies and music since childhood, citing Alice Cooper, Kiss, and Queen among his influences. His band, White Zombie, released their first full-length studio album in 1987. As a band, they only released four studio albums before they went their separate ways. Zombie went solo, releasing his first album in 1998. He took some time off to focus on his directing, but returned to music in 2009.
He directed a number of his own music video, but his first feature film was House of 1,000 Corpses, inspired by The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. He went on to make two sequels, The Devil’s Rejects and 3 From Hell, all of which he also wrote. He wrote and directed the 2007 remake of Halloween and its 2009 sequel; The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, an animated film based on his own comic book series; The Lords of Salem, inspired by The Shining; and 31, a horror film set in a carnival.
Throughout his career, Zombie has scored for video games; launched his own music label, Zombie-a-Go-Go; written comic books; directed a Woolite commercial, and directed an episode of CSI: Miami.
