Cruise Called Out: Too Old for Action Movies

Tom Cruise’s not great The Mummy reboot killed the Dark Universe. There, I said it. And today we have a bit where the author of those Jack Reacher books pulls the plug on Cruise’s return for more Reacher flicks because he is too old.
Specifically, Lee Child tells The Times of London:
“It sounds extremely patronizing, but I think it’s good for him. He’s too old for this stuff. He’s 57, he needs to move on, [he needs to] transition to being a character actor. He could get another 20 years out of it. He is talented. He’s a terrific guy, very considerate, good fun.”

Cruise starred in The Mummy as Nick Morton, a soldier of fortune who plunders ancient sites for timeless artifacts and sells them to the highest bidder. When Nick and his partner come under attack in the Middle East, the ensuing battle accidentally unearths Ahmanet, a betrayed Egyptian princess who was entombed under the desert for thousands of years.
With her powers constantly evolving, Morton must now stop the resurrected monster as she embarks on a furious rampage through the streets of London.
Tom Cruise’s The Mummy was directed by Alex Kurtzman from a screenplay written by David Koepp, Christopher McQuarrie, Dylan Kussman from a story by Jon Spaihts, Kurtzman, and Jenny Lumet. Kurtzman also produced along with Chris Morgan, Sean Daniel, and Sarah Bradshaw.
Cruise’s costars included Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Russell Crowe. Universal Pictures unleashed the failed reboot back on June 9, 2017.
