The Film Society of Lincoln Center's Scary Movies Film SeriesWe know it’s kind of short notice, but this upcoming Saturday, February 25th, as part of their annual eclectic film festival Film Comment Selects, the Film Society of Lincoln Center will be host to a special screening of The Silent House, starring Elizabeth Olsen.

About Film Comment Selects:
The 12th edition of Film Comment magazine’s essential, eclectic festival (which runs February 17th-March 1st) brings you a handpicked lineup of the coming soon and the never-coming-back, the rare and the rediscovered, the unclassifiable and the underrated, the sacred and the profane, the cute and the creepy, the tough and the tender, the naked and the dead–you get the idea. Reeled in by the magazine’s editors on their travels around the festival circuit and following tips from trusty correspondents around the world, this 31-film salute to cinephilia of all stripes has something for everyone: future shock, modern crisis, edgy thrills, psychodrama freak-outs, high art, low brow, the strange and the sweet, the silly and the serious, and, along with the special appearances and intros, we’ve got a very special trick up our sleeve, courtesy of film critic J. Hoberman. (And about the dead: This year we have memorial tributes to two art-film heroes.) So come and hang out with James Franco! The Russians are coming… and the Greeks are here! The old masters rub shoulders with the young turks. And you? You get to sit back and watch. Series programmed by Gavin Smith and the editors of Film Comment.

Silent House screens on the 25th at 10:45 pm in the Walter Reade Theater, 165 W. 65th Street. The showings still to come include Altered States, Despair, Faust, and Sleepwalk.

Silent House stars talented newcomer Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) and is co-directed by Chris Kentis and Laura Lau (Open Water).

Synopsis:
Sarah returns with her father and uncle to fix up the family’s longtime summer house after it was violated by squatters in the off-season. As they work in the dark, Sarah begins to hear sounds from within the walls of the boarded-up building. Although she barely remembers the place, Sarah senses the past may still haunt the home.

Filmmaking duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau once again confront the face of fear in this enthralling psychological thriller. Impressively captured with a continuous camera shot, Silent House tracks the growing panic of its enigmatic lead, Elizabeth Olsen, who’s trapped in an unnerving nightmare. Never ones to be limited by a challenging production, Kentis and Lau mastermind a truly unique horror experience with immediate intimacy and unsettling terror.
