HARD:LINE 2019: Audience Choice And Melies D’Argent Award Winners Announced

At this year’s HARD:LINE Film Festival in Regensburg, Germany, audiences spent the past several days watching films, both feature-length and short-form, from around the world. From crocodiles in pools to Russian gangsters, monsters in the attic to time-traveling foxes, the wide variety of films gave genre fans something new and exciting with each screening.
As is common with film festivals, audience awards were selected for both a feature-length and a short film. For the audience of HARD:LINE 2019, two titles stood above the rest and they deserve to be acknowledged.
The HARD:LINE 2019 Audience Choice Award for Feature Length Film went to Talal Selhami’s Achoura, a fantasy horror out of Morocco and France.
“Four childhood friends are reunited when one of them surfaces after twenty years, forcing them to confront a creature straight out of a spine-chilling Moroccan legend.“
Director Talal Selhami was in attendance to receive the Golden Razor Award.
The HARD:LINE 2019 Audience Choice Award for Short Film went to Nico van den Brink’s The Burden, which follows a couple as they visit the boyfriend’s family home for a remembrance ceremony.
“A young woman visits her boyfriend’s family home. There, she learns about a sinister history with his creepy neighbor and soon, all kinds of skeletons come out of the closet.“
The Burden was acquired earlier this year with James Wan and Michael Clear’s Atomic Monster and Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert’s Ghost House Pictures producing.
A third award, the Méliès D’Argent, was also handed out for the best European short film. Presented by myself with jury members Julian Richards and Stefan Schimek by my side, we were very proud to award the Silver Melies to writer/director Nicole Goode’s Supine.
“A French taxidermist, living in the remote countryside, meets an American hitchhiker and begins to question her life.“
Producers Steve Reverand and Martin Raiman were in attendance to accept the award.
